You Don't Need Thier Approval Pt. 2

Everyday we are bombarded with messages that encourage us to seek approval. Many of the songs that we have grown up with are filled with approval-seeking messages. Check out the billboard top hits from the past and you can find many of the titles that send out the signal that someone or something else is more important than you.

* I can't live , if living is without you

* You make me so very happy

* You're nobody till somebody cares

* You are the sunshine of my life

* Without you, I'm nothing

Well when i was first shown this list, I really didn't know how much i had been filling my head with approval-seeking messages and not knowing it. This takes me back to the old church pastors that would tell the members to be careful of what songs they listened to because they could be ingesting ideas that were not good for them and the case is well made here.

How about we take some of these song titles and remove the approval seeking tone from them. What would they sound like? Now they may not be what you would sing but doing so will trigger in you the understanding of how to break free.

* I am the sunshine of my life and having you in it makes it even brighter.

* I am something great and wonderful whether or not, you are here with me.

* I make myself so very happy because of the things I tell myself about you.

* I have learn to enjoy living with myself, you can only add to the happiness I experience.

I hope you see that starting the statements with I allows us to take responsibility for our own feelings and begin to make ourselves the center of our own world without the need to have someone else there.
